Each year, UBC’s Public Affairs Office receives thousands of calls from web, print, television, and radio journalists in BC, across Canada, and around the world seeking UBC expertise on a wide range of topical issues.
What journalists seek, and UBC can offer, is factual information and informed interpretation, analysis and commentary on a wide range of complex issues.
The UBC Experts Guide (http://experts.news.ubc.ca) is an online information source that gives journalists quick and direct access to UBC’s expertise and enables Public Affairs staff to handle thousands of media inquiries each year from across Canada and around the world. Moreover, this tool can be used by potential graduate students to locate supervisors with relevant research expertise.
Over 1,100 UBC scholars have agreed to be listed in the Experts Guide.
We hope that you will consider making yourself available to the media on your particular areas of expertise. Our signup form is online and only takes a few minutes to complete.
Should you choose to participate, please complete our online signup form, which will allow you to add your expert topic areas and contact information to the database. Please note that new submissions take approximately five business days to process.
In addition, we are happy to provide consultation services, including media awareness and training, to you if you would like to learn more about dealing with the media.
